Jazz Music

This is a little report I recently gave on Jazz Music.

Jazz music started out with African Americans. It developed from their work songs, field shouts, and hymns. Jazz is a sort of mix between African American music and Western European music.

At first, Jazz music was not that popular because African Americans were the people performing it. But, when other people started playing it, it soon became a big hit.

The place where jazz music was first heard was New Orleans, during the 1800's. Now there are several different types of jazz music. A few are: Ragtime, Blues, and DixieLand. The most recent form of jazz is called Acid Jazz.

One of my favorite types of jazz is Ragtime. Rags are usually played on a piano keyboard. At times other instruments are added. Ragtime music started being published around 1890. The first Ragtime that was published was called "The Mississippi Rag" by William Krell.
